This woven tapestry style cotton blanket features an illustration of a mazama newt, the species that resides at the high elevations of Oregon's Crater Lake. Mazama newts are far less toxic than their lowland cousins because the garter snakes that their toxins protect against do not live at the higher, colder elevations. This got me thinking. If a newt has no natural predators and lives in a protected area, and its low metabolism and cold habitat lengthen its lifespan, what's to stop it from just getting bigger... and bigger... and bigger?
